The Control Panel

I have found that the control panel can come in handy from just playing around with sound, mouse types to even the appearance of the screen. The new setup takes some getting used to although exploring the new features has been enlightening. The programs option your able to install, uninstall and adding items to the sidebar to name a few (I’m still getting used to seeing a clock on the side of my screen). The Clock, Language, and Region option allows you to change the time and date, time zones and again the wonderful side bar features. It also allows you to install and uninstall display languages, change country or region settings, number format and even keyboards or other input methods. This is only stating a few of the many options the control panel contains. While also knowing from personnel experience I’ve also used these sites as references and they are microsoft.com and comptechdoc.org.

Starting up with MSCONFIG!

I learned that there are many options and setting that I need to learn more about before I start clicking away. I clicked on one of the items and while restarting to view my changes and how my computer reacted, my computer gladly told me many times with little messages and even bringing the msconfig screen to my attention, that something was wrong and that I need to undo the changes that I made. I’m glad one of us knows what’s going on.
I noticed there was an option for booting in the different types of safe mode. The services tab had a lot of information and although I thought about experimenting with this tab I thought it would be best to stick with the startup tab and view changes that I make from there.

Safe Mode all the Way

Booting the computer with the different safe modes gives the user different options depending what is needed or recommend. For intense, if other sources are needed the safe mode with networking would be more useful because it gives you the option of the internet or drivers.
As I understood it from reading is that the difference between safe mode and safe mode with command prompt was that there is a command prompt to give the user access to command lines instead of the use of a graphical user interface although it doesnt give any additonal support. While Last known good configuration really speaks for itself as I see it and that’s using the same information that was saved the last time the computer was shut off.

Installing Windows Vista

Installing Windows Vista Ultimate took some time although I’m finding that it has many interesting and positive points. After running the Upgrade Advisor I was cleared for installation and began the process. I’ve had to re-install a few programs but other than that it’s coming along smoothly. I've moved all my own documents and photo's over and things are starting to look pretty good. There's always something that needs worked, that’s what makes things interesting and It will be nice learning while I try to put things together. While pasting the screen shot into the paint program I was able to shut the program down completly it seems. Now when I go to open it my computer freezes up or it opens and I can paste but can’t save or close. I’m working on getting the screen shots available for your viewing pleasure; I just need some time to troubleshoot.

My present knowledge of operating systems in general and Windows Vista in particular?

My knowledge of operating systems is knowing that it’s the underlining manager that helps the other programs, memory, system requests and input and output devices for example perform and be controlled properly. Windows Vista comes in different versions as well as bringing many features together from earlier versions such as Windows XP. Although, I’ve just recently installed Windows Vista and am still getting used to the different format and new options. I deal with problems related to programs, printers, Java, and profiles although my knowledge is really only based on everything I do on an everyday basis. I understand processes and how to find solutions in order to fix the problems that arise although I need to step back and learn the system that I’m actually using. In doing this I believe I may also find that I know more than I think I do.

Why take Microcomputer Operatings Systems?

I took this course because it was on my list of classes to complete and it was available this semester. Although when reading the title or discription of a class you never really know what to expect. I’m looking forward to expanding my knowledge when it comes to computers and even though I work with computers all day at work there's so much I still don’t know. I intended to complete an Associate’s degree in Information Technology although the last two days have shown that I'm going to stick with an Associate’s in Business with the discipline in computers but will see. I took this course because it sounded more interesting then taking a course that would be too easy or where I found myself bored because I already knew the information been taught. I'm looking forward to learning something new in this class and being able to use what I learn in my work environment as well home and one day in my business.
